Today was Victory Day, which commemorates the defeat of fascism in the Great Patriotic War (otherwise knows as WWII). Proud vets could be found out in the squares...
Patriotic schoolchildren could be found guarding monuments around the city...
It was a day off school, so the parks/squares were full of groups of children like this...
To celebrate the holiday, we got our photo taken in front of the big hammer/sickle. It still amazes me that monuments like these have survived 16 years into independence...
Here's the closeup. The flowers are not for Victory Day, but rather for Mother's day, a couple days early.
Ella got a flower too, but she just played "he loves me, he loves me not" with it...
