Patriotism was another theme of the event, with children reciting patriotic poems from a stage, and many of the kites with patriotic images on them, like this one celebrating the 1150th birthday of one of their heroes, Rudaki.
The event was very symbolic of the arrival of spring, especially since the plastic material used to make the kites is sold as the stuff you should use to cover your windows in winter. Perhaps these kids took off the winter's window coverings to construct their kites. Here is one depicting the current president...
This one was pretty unique. 7 flags tied together, and it took nearly as many kids to get it launched (before it quickly crashed down on top of them).
These kids were pretty successful (their flag is the little white dot at the top of the photo)...
On the way home, we stopped by a park to ride a donkey...
