The conference was in central Turkish region of Cappadocia. We were able to get out a couple of times to enjoy the geologically and historically fascinating area. One of those times was on 4 wheelers while friends watched our kids...
The famous way to see this region is by hot air balloon (lonely planet claims it is the 2nd most popular place in the world to get a ride, after some nature reserve in Africa). So this is the view we had every morning...
But alas, the balloon thing takes lots of money, so we were happy checking things out a little closer to the ground...
The area is famous for its underground cities and cave churches, etc. Here is Ella and 2 of her friends in a 12th century(?) cave church...
Here is the interior of another of the churches with some pretty cool frescoes. I suppose for a non-literate culture, these pictures on the wall were the Bible...
